Rare Thai 14th - 15th Century Sawankhalok Celadon Stem Bowl (repaired)
This rare stoneware stem bowl was made at the Sawankhalok kilns around the 14th - 15th century. Both inner and outer surfaces have been profusely decorated with incised bands and lines, with a floral pattern to the inside centre. It is coated with a finely-crackled translucent celadon glaze.

Beautifully and artfully sculpted, this shaman, or sukia, sits with arms crossed on knees, smoking, in the traditional pose of these precolumbian figures from the region that now encompasses Costa Rica. Dating to the period 800-1400AD, it is in very good condition, with some loss to the toes on the right foot, and has some patinization from being handled, in addition to mineral encrustation. A Yuan dynasty white glaze Shufu stem cup, this stem cup has high foot with rounded side, an everted lip and spreading stem, inside the stem cup there is two scaly dragons chasing flaming pearl, the stem cup covered with opaque white Shufu or Luanbai glaze.
