A large graphite on heavy paper drawing, likely a sketch study for a subsequent painting, 18" by 24" (26 1/2" by 32" framed), signed at lower right and titled "USS Los Angeles" by the artist, the noted California-associated, British-born artist ARTHUR EDWAINE BEAUMONT (1890-1978)...

A PAIR of Mid Century drawings, consisting of concentric line patterns and overlapping forms, typical of the imagery, whether in sculpture, drawing/painting or graphics, of acclaimed Spanish modern artist AMADEO GABINO (1922-2004). Each is drawn in brown ink and measures 12 3/4" by 15 1/2" (13 3/4" by 17" in black shadowbox type framing over an inch deep). Some of the darker lines are interestingly also scored into the paper, like deep cuts...

This 6 1/4" by 10" ink drawing on paper (11 1/2" by 13 3/4" as framed) is titled at lower left "Garden of Sounds" and is signed at lower right "STANDISH" and dated "52" I believe. It's a subtle work that does not take well to being photographed, (and I've had to enhance--darken--the photos a bit to make it easier to appreciate on a screen) but, viewed in person, it is quite an impressive and delicate work that reminds one somewhat of some of the drawings by Paul Klee...

A pencil drawing on paper, 5 1/4" by 7 3/4", (12 1/2" by 15" in modern frame), featuring studies of humped cattle lying down near an early wagon, unsigned, by the noted London-born artist GEORGE CHINNERY (1774-1852). Chinnery is known as the only western painter who was a resident of South Asia from the early to the mid 19th century, and a leading artist of the British community in India. After Royal Academy training he took at ship to Madras (Chennai) in 1802...

This is an exceptionally early, student work by the ultimately famous and important American-born artist who lived much of his life in Europe. The scene is of a group of fashionably dressed people listening to the guide at left, inside one of Florence's art museums, probably the Uffizi Gallery, the walls hung with pictures, a copyist at his easel, and other tourists gawking at right. The drawing is ink on paper laid on board, and is signed at lower right "Cucuel" and dated there "99"...

There are lots of signed prints out there, but few original works, by the hand of famous comedian RED SKELTON (1913-1997), who is said to have said that he made more money from his art than from his entertainment career. This is one of those scarce original works: a pencil drawing of a bird's head---likely a gull, though, possibly a young eagle...

This is an original ink wash on paper drawing, 12" by 17 1/2" (17 3/4" by 23" as framed shadow-box style behind Plexiglas), the image featuring a voluptuous nude woman and a bull that looks positively Chagall-like, signed at lower left corner by the highly important American twentieth century sculptor artist, REUBEN NAKIAN (1897-1986)...

Ink on paper laid on board, 6 1/4" by 4 1/4" (the drawing itself), signed at lower right J.C.F.M. and signed again on reverse of the card "J.C.F. Murray '08" and titled "Volendam". I don't see a listing for this name, if I'm reading it correctly, but the drawing is obviously by a trained hand. Note the details of the wooden shoes on both figures, the traditional bonnet on the lady. Volendam is a small town north of Amsterdam and is known for its traditional dress and traditions...

This is an unframed study in pencil by a noted figure in eastern American art, XANTHUS RUSSELL SMITH (1839-1929). The artist, at age 85, signed it with his distinctive "XS" monogram at lower left, and wrote "Painted in oil this size", and dated it Nov. 29- 1924. The sketchbook paper measures 6 5/8" by 9". It would be interesting to pair this with the oil version, in order to gain insight into the artist's artistic process...

Three drawings in pencil on gray-blue paper, each 7 1/2" by 12" approximately inside the mat, all of coastal scenes with multiple figures, sailing ships and even dogs and donkeys. Two are signed with the "W C" initials and are dated Nov. 1866; the third one with conjoined initials is titled "Falmouth" (a city in Cornwall, on the southwest coast of England) and is dated 12 June 1867...

PAIR OF signed ink drawings with pencil underneath, each 7 1/2" by 6 1/2" and 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" as identically framed, the subjects famous clipper ships of the 19th century "Gamecock" and "Cutty Sark", each bearing a signature at lower right that could be interpreted as a "G" inside a square. Found in Maine, and said to have come from a Kennebunkport home, the artist who created the drawings might remain a mystery. Original pencil figural drawing, 15" by 9" plus a gray mat, unframed, signed at lower right "K. Delaney" and dated there 1979. I do not know who the artist might have been but he or she certainly had a talent as a draftsperson. The condition is generally good save for modest paper browning and there is tape residue on the reverse from clumsy attachment to the mat. Fit a frame on this and you'll have a pleasant, nicely executed drawing.
