Also on the back is written in pencil, “FOR 1949 EXHIB.” The frame has printed on the lower edge words about copyright by Woodward so the silver gilt frame and narrow painted liner are original to the painting. This portrait was purchased in Georgia from the West Family. The owner had been a partner in the Law Firm King and Spaulding. The portrait appears to be of a Lawyer or a Justice. This high quality portrait measures 20" x 16". It has been relined. We are researching this painting and will advise progress later. Our research indicates that this is a portrait of a young Joseph Story(1779-1845). This portrait is painted in the style of Gilbert Stuart.
