The Gendarme back chairs get their name from the Shape of Napoleon and the French Gendarmes(Policemans hat) from the mid 19th century. A Chinese apprentice sample model of a traditional style 17th or 18th century clothing chest. Made of beautiful Jichimu (Chicken-wing) wood with antique hard mounts. Two doors open to a storage area with center shelf. A removable center brace partitions the two doors.

This is a 9 drawer leather chest, that can be used for a number of things, but is perfect as a jewelry chest. It was made by Maitland Smith and is extremely heavy. The drawers are black lacquer on the inside, and brown leather with gold trim on the outside. It is signed on the inside of the top drawer. It measures 42" tall x 10" wide x 11" deep. It is in good condition with some wear to the leather.

French carved wood foot stool or foot rest, 6 1/2" high, 13 1/2" wide x 9" wide, brocaded silk fabric upholstered top, some thin space between joint but all the joints are tight together.
