Large Japanese woodblock print by renowned artist Hideo Hagiwara (1913-2007). Studied at the Tokyo school of Fine Arts, where he graduated at the Oil Painting Section in 1938. While still there he attended Un'ichi Hiratsuka's extracurricular woodblock printing course, and in the same year he became quality controller at the Takamizawa Woodblock Print Company. He was conscripted into the army in 1943. In 1945 he had lost his house, his atelier and nearly all his early works...

Oversized limited-edition Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock print by Okiie Hashimoto (1899-1993) titled "Evening Garden No. 16." The bottom margin is pencil-signed, titled in kanji, dated 1960, and numbered 16/60. The artist's red seal is at the lower left corner of the image. The lower right margin holds a black 5-character self-published mark. Paper: 22 3/4" x 18 1/4" (image: 21 1/4" x 16 3/4"). Very good overall condition. The margin corners are creased. It shows the profile of a tree with many long, twisting branches in a beautiful navy blue color against a metallic silver background. The outlines of the tree are embossed, giving it more depth and contrast. Numbered 83/153 and signed in pencil, with Maki's red signature stamp in the corner. Framed. Original shin-hanga woodblock print titled "Sacred Grove" by artist Tōshi Yoshida (1911-1995). It is a nature scene showing a red temple with golden doors and roof, partially obscured by trees. The forest floor is mossy and only a small bit of the sky peeks through the treetops. The print is framed behind glass with a large wooden border. The photo shows reflection on the glass but the print is perfect. Size: (entire frame) 16" height, 12" width (print only) 9" height, 6.5" width

Japanese large print entitled "Fruit" by the artist Reika Iwami. She was born in 1927, graduated from the Tokyo Bunka Gakuin Art College. She studied the art of doll-carving and worked under the national treasure, Hori Ryūjo before becoming a print artist in 1954. This print exemplifies her use of large abstract shapes and a muted pallet. In this print, Iwami has used mica and an embossing technique. Signed in graphite, dated 1959...
