Beautiful German sterling silver swan bowl with rare glass liner. A nice-sized bird with twisting s-scroll neck, closed bill, and direct expression. Gently protuberant haunches and webbed feet in glide mode. Fine delineation of feathers from scaly neck to downy wing plumes. Liner is frosted with scalloped rim. Being based in Kyoto we occasionally come across fine Chinese and Korean tea-ware to mix in with our Japanese offerings. Here we have an example of a ceremonial tea bowl from the Shinragi kiln in Korea. Pieces like the one seen here are baked in a traditional wood-fired “climbing kiln” at a temperature of over 1,300 degrees for 5 days. Fashioned after classical works held in museum collections, the motifs are timeless and captivating.

Finest quality Victorian repousse silver water pitcher. Made by S. Kirk & Son in Baltimore. Tall with scrolled helmet mouth and curved bottom. Cast leaf-capped and -wrapped high-looping s-scroll handle and raised foot with stippled fluting. Repousse with roses, calla lilies, and water lilies as well as scrolling leaves and spikey fronds. Fully marked including maker’s stamp (1880-90), no. 315, and alloy (“11 OZ”), that is 11/12 or 916 silver. Excellent condition with deep patina.
