Certain items of jewelry, such as the scarab, carried religious significance to the ancient Egyptians. Egyptian Faience "Djoser" Tile, 3rd Dynasty, c. 2650 BC. Faience tile with blue-green glaze. Size 6.1 x 3.4 cm. Smooth surface obverse with a projection and hole on the reverse for hanging. Small chip at upper right corner and along bottom, otherwise intact.

The blue faience tiles were made to resemble the reed matting of the king's palace at Memphis...
