A mukuzuke or serving dish of raised barbed lotus form with a moulded ribbed cavetto decorated in underglaze blue with gilt outlined enamels dating to circa 1740-70. The unusual form of the dish follows Chinese “Ko Sometsuke” precedents of the first half of the 17th century; see “The Peony Pavillion” lot 220 for a Chinese example of the Chongzhen period, where this particular form is considered to have been especially made for the kaiseki meal accompanying the Tea ceremony. The rim border is divided into six fan shaped panels decorated with three sets of alternating floral compositions featuring respectively Bamboo, take, Peonies and rocks, botan, and shibagaki Brushwood fences. A fine Arita soba choku decorated with Chrysanthemums within ogee form reserves set against an aka-e kinrande ground dating to the middle of the Eighteenth century The interior decorated with a diaper band to the rim and a go-ben ka to the bottom of the cup. The base of the cup decorated with a spiral fuku within a double square. The cup is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. A good abalone shaped, awabi-gata, Ko Imari dish decorated in some-nishikide style with a sansui style Landscape. The reverse decorated in under-glaze blue with boats and islands and within the foot-ring and within a single ring a mountain fuku, good fortune, mark. The dish measures 6.5 inches or 16.5cm in length and 5.125 inches or 13cm in width, and 1.5 inches or 4cm in height, and is in good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Shipping at Cost.

A fine Kakiemon shallow dish of moulded octafoil form decorated in underglaze blue and enamels with a scene from the Tale of Ise featuring the famous eight planked zig zag bridge, Yatsuhashi, over a bed of Irises, kakitsuba. The Kakiemon version combines trailing Cherry blossom with clouds and rain. The lower half of the design incorporates further familiar Kakiemon elements, the almost trade mark, turbulent waves and a water fowl, amongst Irises...

A nice quality early Eighteenth century Japanese Imari export bowl decorated in underglaze blue, kinsai gilding and iron red. The exterior of the bowl painted with overlapping symmetrically arranged trefoil and peach shaped reserves, each containing a delicately painted kacho-ga motif of shiragiku, white asters, and pheasants and chrysanthemums, kiku ni kiji, traditional autumnal motifs...

A good quality five colour Imari deep bowl decorated with a meandering arabesque of double headed Peach flowers. The interior decorated with boughs of the same, and the base decorated with a Clove motif in green enamel (Oliver Impey identifies this as a Daikon). The central Mikomi decorated with a floral motif of two stylised flowers surrounded by a broad band of alternating cartouches in kakiwake style with auspicious objects, Chinese and Japanese Fans and a Whisk, and Cranes. The dish has a fuchi beni, iron brown glazed rim with no pattern to the reverse...

A finely painted Kakiemon moulded long dish decorated with a continuous band of scrolling tako-karakusa with a Dragon and auspicious stylised cloud motifs inset within an undulating oval medallion. The interior of the dish is moulded to mirror the undulating border of the reserve and the edge of the dish has an iron brown fuchi beni glaze. The exterior of the dish has stylised karakusa motif incorporating an auspicious three petal flower, which also appears in the centre of the dish...

A hog mouthed beaker of conventional form decorated with Flowers of precious appearance or sometimes referred to as Tang Flowers, karahana. A six character Dai Min Seika nensei mark is painted within the foot-ring. The beaker is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. It measures 9.2cm in diameter and stands 6.2cm high. A finely painted Kakiemon dish of scalloped form painted in under-glaze blue with a pair of auspicious Hoo birds amongst clouds, harbingers of good fortune, with stylised Peony branches. The reverse painted with a classic lotus scroll and a square fuku seal. Dating circa 1680-1700 and a product of the Kama-no Tsuji (Kakiemon) kiln in the Nangawara valley, note the fine pin point spurs and carefully trimmed footrim.
