This an exquisitively carved Baroque Crucifix, probably made in Spain in the Early 18th Century in the manner of The Christ of Clemency (Cristo de la Clemencia) of the Seville Cathedral, Spain. The Christ's body displays, in a lifelike manner, the ribcage pressed against his stretched skin, and carefully rendered arms and leg muscles, with visible veins, to highlight his humanity. The hands perfectly carved (the left hand missing portions of fingers), and feet with well-delineated toes and nails. A crown of triple spikes rests over his head that shows a well-rendered lifelike hair. His head is turned down to the right. The crucifix preserves its original fittings, which is extremely rare for a crucifix of this age. The cross is made of two natural pieces of wood, painted in black, but now well patinated with the passage of time, which is adorned with incised carved lines within geometrically shaped areas where the hands and feet rests, that have been gilded with real gold. The ends of the cross covered with real silver cups. The cross is inserted in a base that also sports a silver band on its bottom. Excellently preserved original condition. The Cross and base measure 24.5 inches The base measures 5 squared inches on the bottom and 4 squared inches on top The Corpus measures 11 inches tall, and 10 inches wide

This a Large Wooden Carved Polychrome Crucifix made during the Early part of the 18th century possibly from Cypress wood. It was made in the manner made popular by the Spanish for the making of religious figures/sculptures from the 12th century, which consisted of carving the sculpture from light wood (cypress), then covering it in layers of Gesso (Yeso), the flesh tones of the face, arms, torso an legs were applied by a painter, and finally, 'Estofado' was applied to embellish the drapery (cloth) with gilded touches. This sculpture has been carefully carved to show the image of Christ. The anatomy is intact for the most part; its only missing a couple of finger from each hand, which is remarkable, given that this statue has been around for about 200 years. Most of its colors remain as originally applied on about 98% of the corpus body; even the bright color of the blood remains as originally done. The painting in the entire sculpture has acquired a darker color or patina due to its age. It seem as though the sides of its loin cloth has been partially cut on both ends (right and left) and gilded, but it must have been generations ago, because they show some worm holes that are inactive. Otherwise, it remains in its original condition. Normally, sculpture of this age are missing flakes of skin on various parts of its corpus; showing the underlying gesso, but the skin and its colors remained as when it was originally made The cross, which appears original to the corpus, also made of wood and painted brown, shows its original decorative gilded convex lines. The are also some worm holes, although inactive on the upper portion of the cross. Excellently preserved original condition. The Cross measure 30 inches tall and 12.25 inches wide The Corpus measures 16.5 inches tall, and 9.5 inches wide

This excellent 19th century WKC (Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Company, Solingen, Germany) Imperial Hunting Cutlass is 22 inches in length. The mounts are composed of beautiful brass throughout the hilt and scabbard. The pommel area has a fluted nut at the top center of the cap which acts as a threaded tang nut. The pommel has a smooth upper surface with curved edges featuring line decorated sides. The ferrule below is also lined, having otherwise smooth surfaces. The crossguard features the plain center block area on both sides and the quillon arms go outward in the shape of deer’s hooves. The hair is simulated from the deer’s legs from hand enhancing into the metal. The left guard goes upward the right guard goes downward. Below is an interesting clam shell having scalloped edges. In the center area it features the eight-rayed, faceted silver star that bears the eagle surrounded by the order motto "SUUM CUIQUE" - To each his own - and the double laurel branch engraved in gold on white enamel. There is hand work evident to the renderings. The grip really ties in these interesting mounts. It is a thick stubby stag antler, having tan and brown colors to the raised grains. It tips slightly to the left and was obviously chosen for its specifications that almost exactly fit the ferrule and pommel cap with little trimming required. This weighty stubby grip is decorated with three leafless acorns with finely checkered caps. A most fetching hilt here, much different in style than most. The blade has a fuller down to three quarters of its length. It has been cleaned and polished with most details of etching worn away. Edge has been sharpened. Blade length is 16 inches. The scabbard retains its original black leather with some scratches and signs of wear. It is decorated with twin accent lines that run the length of the edges on both sides. The brass mounts have scalloped edges and are retained by staples. The lower mount is enhanced with dual lines and has a couple of scratches and lined dents, while the upper mount its in excellent condition and features a fine acorn-shaped lug with nice detail to the acorn cap

This is a very large, very seldom seen, antique, Buddhist Temple Mokugyo. A Mokugyo is a wooden percussion instruments that is used by monks at Buddhist Temples (in Japan, China and Korea) during Buddhist ceremonies that involve the recitation of sutras or mantras to maintain rhythm during chanting. It is made from mostly KUSU (Camphor) wood. For large temple Mokugyos such as this one, the wood must be at least 100-years old. This is the size of Mokugyos used in Buddhist Temples (photo 11) or Buddhist ceremonies (photo 12) The making of a Mokugyo takes a long time. Once a large piece of wood is cut to make a Mokugyo of this size, it must be dried for 3 to 5 years. The external carving of the wood takes about six months, then a few more months to hollow it out the bulbous cavity that makes up the sounding block and the cavity ridge around its base. On this Mokugyo, the Dragon heads are rendered in perfect symmetry with deeply carved fish scales on both sides of the drum. The front side is inscribed with the kanji 玉鱗 that means "Jade Scale". There are three lines of inscriptions, incised in red, on the back side of the drum. The "mokugyo no bo" or Mallet used to bong the fish drum is 24 inches in length, and it is as old as the instrument. This very rarely seen on sale Mokugyo is in excellent condition.
