An exceptional large bronze ritual bowl, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Empire, 13th.-14th. century.

As temporary with the Yuan and Early Ming Dynasties, the Majapahit Empire became a dominant world power in the 13th.-15th. century unders ruler like Hayam Wuruk. Majapahit was an empire of 98 tributaries, stretching from Sumatra to New Guinea;consisting of present-day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, East Timor, Sulu Archipelago and other parts of the Philippines.

This outstanding bronze bowl with water-patina must surely be among the finest from the early Majapahit Empire. The deep bowl is very elegant with a decorated rim and much concenthric decoration in high relief. Massive, solid piece.

Size: 22 cm. wide (diameter) and ca. 5 cm. tall

Condition: Superb, difficult to imagine a better enamel-like olive patina. Completely intact with fantastic metal and perfect smooth surfaces.
