Extremely rare figure of Buddha in Gilt Silver of a great Kandyan style, Sri Lanka, Kandy district, 18th.-19th. century.
Standing on a modern teak base with his right hand raised in abhaya mudra. Wearing a sanghati draped over his left shoulder with finely carved folds. His serene face with downcast eyes, with long pierced earlobes and his hair surmounted by a flame-shaped finial.
Early Sri Lanka silver figures of Buddha are extremely rare and this is not a small figure for the material, period and culture. Also note the remnants of gilt.
Height: 15,5 cm. including the charming base, 11,6 cm. alone.
Condition: Choice Extremely fine for the medium and age, finely patinated and intact. The teak base is a c. 1960s addition.
Ex the famous Danish arts dealer Lau Sunde. Lau Sunde aquired the figure in the 1950s-60s.
