A high quality and large seated figure of a female Bodhisattva, Java, 9th-10th. cent.

The seated figure carved from volcanic rock, probably a type of very hard greyish-black andesit. The left arm holds a the low part of a tall flower which curls around the left wrist and the right arm rests in the lap in dhyana mudra. The legs are crossed in padmasana. The figure wears an elaborately decorated crown and multiple bodhisattva ornaments and jewelry. She sits on a lotus throne, large halo behind. Stunning details carved and a particular serene expression with downcast eyes and finely carved facial features.

Size: 36 cm. tall and 25,5 cm. wide - c. 21 cm. deep. A massive figure that weighs around or more than 18 kilograms.

Condition: Good Very fine and completely Intact! Heavy weatered patina with redish-grey, sandy encrustations in the details.

Provenance: Old Swedish Collection, formerly in the Ban Bang Yoga Carta collection - an Indonesian professors collection, bought in the 1960s-1970s.
