An important pair of exceptional gilt brass shield wall sconces, Noble house in the German States or representing the Holy Roman Empire, c. 1650-1680.

Artfully decorated shield type of scounces with German Heraldic Eagles on either side of a wreath. Inside the wreath a knealing page is presenting the crown. With floral decoration other the remaining surface. The two candle holders with drippand also decorated repousee.

To presenting the crown is normally something related to a change of throne, so these could have been made as memorial of such an event.

These scounces was lawishly fire gilt and much are still present on the surfaces leaving a true gold shine to them.

A very high end pair, that doesn't come much better and older than this!

Size: 61 cm. tall and 40,5 cm. wide.

Condition: Choice Near extremely fine, still workable order and with much details and gold preserved.

Provenance: Private Collection of Bjørn De Roepstorff, an important Danish castle / mansion collection of Early European antiques.
