From an ancient Ayuthaya Collector: 18/19th Century BRONZE SUKKOTHAI BUDDHA Subduing Mara. Fine original, old patina. Size: Height 29" x width 19" x depth 11". This is one of the 3 Buddhas which belonged to the collector and which represents the Thai ideal of possessing the 3 most desiable images for worshipping, i.e. UTHONG, CHIENGSAEN and SUKKOTHAI.

Very handsome and attractive small head of Buddha, GANDHARA, 2-3rd Century, Grey Schist. The youthful face is well defined with handsome features following a classical Hellenistic-Greek style. The crescent shaped hair is toped by a raised ushnisha and a small urna is between the delicately arched eyebrows. The ear has a large pierced lobe. A very beautiful schist head of a Bodhisattva, 2-4 Century AD, with soft, youthful features, wearing a diadem with rosettes. The hair is pulled up into an elaborate top knot, urna between the eyebrows. Acquired on the London (UK) Art Market prior to 1980. Mounted on a Museum Quality metal stand. Size of head alone: 12.5 cm. (5"), excluding stand. Very fine condition.

Gandhara Kingdom stucco head of Buddha mounted, 3/4th Century, condition: good, left ear damaged and a few inconsequential nicks, common considering the age of this fine sculpture, size" H. 12cm x W. 8cm x D. 11cm. The idealized style is reminiscent of Greek Hellenistic sculpture which strongly influenced the Buddhist imagery of Central Asia and in particular of Gandharan artists.
