Elegant object in Japanese taste, the body is made out of kiri (Paulownia tree) wood, perfect lacquer work, two parts fit perfectly, beautiful surfaces, in excellent condition. Diameter 1.82 inches.

Unusual 19th century bronze netsuke of a seated monk. Nicely cast, beautiful patina, some wear. Characters on the bottom appera to read ROKUSHIN, possibly the name of the artist. Height 1.23 inches.

1930s Japanese carving of an ivory bird floating on a wooden pond. Wonderful crisp realistic carving, excellent painted highlights, very nice stand with wave patterns. Old stable crack along its side, otherwise in great condition. Bird length 2 inches, stand length 3 inches, total height 1.6 inches.

Unusual Kyoto piece made in neriage (agateware) technique that is achieved by laminating different colored clays together and throwing them on a wheel to develop a swirling and spiraling effect. Rather unusual late Taisho - early Showa (1920s) Japanese boxwood scoop for loose tea, its handle carved as the head of angry Daruma, Patriarch of Zen Buddhism. Beautifully carved, nice patina, signed on the front with 3 characters that appear to read CHUKOBI. It is very unusual to see signed tea scoop. Length 3 inches.

Late Meiji to early Taisho (1920s) Japanese Kutani porcelain obidome (sash ornament) with enamel decoration of various auspicious objects: coins, key, scroll, magical raincoat, Precious Gem and others. Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well. Nice design, excellent quality painting with gold and other enamels, bar on the back for an obi cord...

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with body pinched on 3 sides, one indent containing a low relief figure of standing Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Luck and incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future). The piece was made at Bizen kilns, characteristic brown clay body, beautiful patina. Clever design, very pleasant to hold, in excellent condition. Height 7 1/8 inches.
