Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) Japanese hammered copper incense burner - tripod with wide body, flaring mouth and 3 short feet. Wonderful object made by hammering a chunk of copper, raising it and giving it shape - no casting is involved. Fantastic clean gently curving organic form with beautifully hammered surface and superb reddish patina, very pleasant to the touch. Signed JUZAN on the bottom, beautiful object for scholar’s desk. Height 2 1/4 inches, diameter 3 7/8 inches at the widest.

19th century netsuke of a standing Chinese female Immortal holding a fan in one hand and a branch of the Fungus of Immortality in the other. Very nicely carved, great face, elaborate hair arrangement, polychrome decoration with expected wear, beautiful patina. Height 2 9/16 inches.

18th century or earlier Indian bronze votive sculpture of standingmale figure with a dagger and a a lingam in his hands. I believe the image to be a rare 2-armed form of Govinda Bhairava, who is a syncretic form of Vishnu and Shiva. Wonderful casting, great detailing of his clothes and jewelry, beautiful devotional wear, excellent patina. Height 4 3/4 inches.

18th century netsuke of seated Jurojin (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune, usually associated with longevity) leaning on one hand. Wonderful early carving of characteristic triangular section, smiling benevolent face, great fat earrings, beautifully etched textile patterns, some black and red highlights. Expert light staining, superb patina. Height 1 1/8 inches.

19th century marine ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in ball shape carved in the round with shishi (Buddhist lion) frolicking among rocks and flowers. Beautifully carved, excellent patina, metal liner to the central hole. Diameter 0.68 inches.

18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of Radha beautifully flexing her body, her arms wide spread, a betel nut in her right hand, cast in the State of Orissa. Radha is a Hindu goddess and a chief consort of the god Krishna and is worshiped as the goddess of love, tenderness, compassion and devotion. She is the avatar of Lakshmi and is also described as the chief of gopis (milkmaids), who are entranced by Krishna playing flute...

Late 18th to early 19th century wooden netsuke of seated Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune and incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future) with wide smile and a fan in his hand. Strong carving with wonderfully captured facial expression, beautiful wear and patina. Height 1 3/16 inches.

Pair of early 19th century Japanese sword menuki each depicting a pair of armored samurai in sword fights in different attitudes. Wonderful work, bronze with gilding, slight wear, in very good condition. Length 1 1/4 inches.

18th century good size iron Japanese sword tsuba with decoration of Kanzan and Jittoku in conversation According to a legend, Kanzan and Jittoku lived in a kitchen of a Chinese Zen Buddhist monastery and talked nonsensical language, which some took as a sign of them being enlightened. Wonderful design, beautiful applied gold decoration of their robe patterns, crisp metalwork, in great condition. Height 3.23 inches.

18th to early 19th century iron Japanese sword tsuba worked in low relief with an ama-ryu (rain dragon) in flight among pouring rain and wispy clouds. Clever and elegant design in Japanese taste, gilded highlights, in great condition. Height 2.86 inches.

Early 19th century Japanese sword iron tsuba with pierced decoration of water dragons contesting tama (Precious Gems). Strong early piece with numerous perforations, gilding, wear and patina consistent with age. Diameter 2.93 inches.

19th century kagamibuta (“mirror lid”) netsuke, its top with Shibayama inlay of a mosquito. Very rare creature in Japanese art, possibly unique unique subject in netsuke. Very well made, inlays include 2 types of mother of pearl and brown buffalo horn. Beautiful patina, swinging metal loop at the back for the cord. Diameter 1.6 inches.

19th century wooden netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape with pewter, mother of pearl and lacquer decoration of ivy leaves on vines. Wonderful design, beautiful work, fine wood with dense texture. Diameter 1.5 inches.

Early 1910s Japanese scroll painted with ink and color on paper. The scroll depicts a temple gate (torii) and pines covered with fresh fluffy snow. Superb quality realistic painting perfectly capturing the mood of the scene. Wonderful composition in Japanese taste, the painting is in great shape, beautiful brocade mounts with cloud design, lacquered wood scroll ends. Late Meiji / early Taisho miniature Japanese porcelain vase depicting a family of 3 egrets in different attitudes. Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, in perfect condition. Signed in underglaze blue SENPO SENO SEI (Made in Senpo’s pottery) on the bottom. Height 3 3/8 inches.

18th century Japanese sword iron tsuba made in a shape of two confronting SHU - Japanese flute instruments for use in Shinto ceremony and consisting of bamboo reeds forming a circular wind chamber. The lower parts of the flutes are inlaid with pine designs in gold. Very clever design in Japanese taste, wonderful quality inlay, some rusting as can be seen in photos, great feel of age. Height 2.85 inches (72.4 mm).

Early 19th century decent size wooden netsuke representing a theatrical mask of horned demon Hannya. Wonderful crisp detailing, eyes are inlaid with brass giving them an eery intensity, beautiful lustrous patina from wear. Height 2 3/8 inches.
