A large evening bag showing on both sides the same geometric pattern on a red ground, worked in tiny glass beads. The celluloid frame in the form of an opened poppy blossom. Presumably French around 1920. Brown lining. Condition: two tassels with missing fringes, lining a bit raddled, clean. Dimension: without handle: c. 45 cm, 23.5 cm wide.

A traditional folk costume frippery crown called "Schappele", worn in the Bregenzerwald in Austria by girls and unmarried young women. A cardboard ring covered with velvet, the front with embroidered Christogram IHS in gold thread and some sequins. The upper part of the headdress made with gilt wire, glass beads and silk ribbons. A very rare liturgical embroidery dating to the 17th century or earlier. A cope hood in shield-form with a central applied panel depicting the Archangel Michael. He is standing in complete armour holding a sword and about to strike a tailed demon. Ruby silk ground with couched gold and silver threads and appliqued arabesques in yellow silk, the medaillon and lining in linen. Condition: clean. Wear, slits, mendings and losses...
