a coiling snake on top. Chinese probably auspicious characters to one side. The name of the owner, Bettina, is carved both in Chinese and Latin lettering. Height "3 1/3/ 8.5 cm. Condition: fine.

A tea bowl or maybe, rather, a wine bowl. The front with the combined crest of two families from the rural nobility, one is symbolized by a harrow, the other by a bunch of grapes. The back with the intertwined initials of the families joined together in marriage, surrounded by vines and grapes. China, mid or late 18th century. Diameter "3¼/ 8 cm, height "1¾/ 4,5 cm. Condition: a very small glaze flake to the mouth rim.

Bowl with enameled decoration in Doucai colours of bats and double Xi marks (symbolizing the happiness of marriage). Articulating lines in under-glaze blue, the centre with a pomegranate. A Chinese jar, 19th Century Kangxi revival. Wu jin or mirror black glaze and decoration in gilt of flowers and birds in reserves against a diapered background. Condition: drilled hole to the base and wear to the gilt, minor scratch marks and some wear around the neck (from the original lid, now missing). A black and gilt lid of a different shape to go with the jar (optional, cf. photo). Height "5½/ 14 cm.

Chinese tea bowl with very thinly engraved sgraffito decoration of a lady in her garden. Illegible seal mark in red. The hairstyle of the lady points to the Republic period, around 1930. Height: 2 1/4" / 6 cm. Condition: minor chip to the inside of the foot rim.

Grisaille / encre de Chine and iron red decorated semi-eggshell saucer, depicting a Mandarin family scene of a father wishing his wife and son a nice walk in the garden, she holding a fishing rod and the little boy with a bird in his hand, all surrounded by a border of flowers and conchs in European Rococo style. China, early Qianlong, c 1740. Diameter "4 ¾ / 12.2 cm. Condition: re-glued, some wear to the decoration and rim frits (cf. pics).

A miniature vase, decorated in underglaze blue with garlands of grapevines. China, Yongzheng to early Qianlong, 18th century. Interestingly, the same decoration has been found on many of the blue and white plates in the cargo of Swedish East Indiaman Götheborg which went down just outside the town with that name in 1745. Height "3 ¼ / 8.3 cm. Condition: an old restoration overpaint to the mouth rim has been removed to leave just the filling (cf. pics).
