An Extr. Rare Attributed Portrait of the 4th King of Joseon (조선朝鮮)-세종대왕 [世宗大王] with the Queen-王妃, Korean-19th C.:
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century or older, dated and signed with a seal, whole plexi glass framed, painted on silk with bright natural pigment with real gold used.
This portrait believed to be of세종대왕 [世宗大王]- the 4th King of Joseon dynasty, and the Queen. He was the 3rd son of태조 [太祖] 이성계 [李成桂]: the first King of Joseon.
It’s in good condition with some creased, but please carefully view all attached lot images (images provided here are also as part of the condition description).
it measures 81 cm x 85 cm (32” x 33.5”) image only, or 82.5cm x 86.5cm x 86.5cm (32.5” x 34.25”) overall (including plexi glaas frame).
***A bout 세종대왕 [世宗大王]: 1397(태조 6)∼1450(세종 32). 조선 제4대 왕. [개설] 재위 1418∼1450. 훈민정음이 창제되고 측우기와 같은 과학 기구가 제작 되었으며1420 년에 집현전을 확대해 학문 연구 기관으로 만들었다. 본관은 전주(全州). 이름은 이도(李祹), 자는 원정(元正). 태종의 셋째아들이며, 어머니는 원경왕후 민씨(元敬王后閔氏), 왕비 소헌왕후(昭憲王后), the queen’ name known:方氏.
