Everyone seems to love Paris, a city which has inspired and continues to inspire much art. This pair of watercolors, one of the elegant and timeless Place Vendome, the other the famed "Le Dome" cafe of Montparnasse, are signed by artist "Hrobel". Each measures 16" by 24" (26" by 33 1/4" as framed). The pair is ready for the wall, with clean blue mats and tasteful cream frames. The colors are not faded and there is no foxing nor water staining. Surprisingly I do not see an obvious listing for the artist name. I would like to keep these together as a pair. Place Vendome is today a very high class address, bordered by the most elegant shops and hotels; the Le Dome Cafe was started in Montparnasse on the Left Bank in 1898. At the turn of the century it began to attract a down at the heels crowd of intellectuals...writers, artists, models, art dealers, poets, who called it the "Anglo-American Cafe". It was the popular gathering spot for the "Lost Generation" of authors. Today it is an upscale seafood restaurant.
