**One of two works by the artist in my shop** Oil on canvas, titled on original label "Cold Drink Stand", measuring 12" by 16" on the stretchers, 20" by 23 1/4" as framed, signed at lower left by the well listed modernist California painter DAN LUTZ (1906-1978). The label affixed to the stretcher, on which is written "Cold Drink Stand/By/Dan Lutz" is the original red and blue-bordered Dalzell Hatfield Galleries label, although it is now partially missing (compare to the intact one on the other Lutz painting in my shop). The Illinois-born Lutz is known today for his urban landscapes and genre subjects, often painted with bright color and with heavy impasto. In the late 1920's he began art instruction at the Art Institute of Chicago, at which time he received a fellowship and went to Europe to study. After 1932 Lutz settled in Los Angeles, and obtained a degree at USC, where he himself went on to teach. During the war years he taught at the Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles. By this time he was working in the Social Realist and Regionalist styles for which he received wide recognition. His works were exhibited at the Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939, as well as many other venues through the 1940's and 1950's. Today most major California museums and many out of state retain his work in their collections. ***Final image shows the two Lutz paintings as they appear together, for size comparison, but, they are listed separately in my shop.***
