A fine mixed media work (appears to be a textured gesso mixed with sand), that unusual medium overpainted with orange, white and sky blue in a vertical format, the work signed lower right in ink "B. Rahmi" and dated there 1962. Measurements are 11 3/8" by 7 3/4" **(29 cm. by 20 cm.)**, and (14 1/4" by 10 7/8" framed in a kind of shadowbox arrangement, behind glass and linen liner, in a gold leaf frame). The artist, BEDRI RAHMI EYUBOGLU (1913-1975) is well-known in his native land, Turkey, where works have sold for very large sums at auctions. Sotheby's and Bonhams have also offered his paintings. Eyuboglu is known today as a painter, muralist and mosaic artist, but importantly is also known as a poet in Turkey. He claimed his work was inspired by Anatolian village scenes and folk literature. Interestingly, he was for a time a guest professor at the University of California, Berkeley. See extensive online biographies. Allow for reflections in glass. Gold frame has loss area at lower right as shown.
