An excellent example of the watercolor work by the noted New Orleans artist NESTOR FRUGE (1916-2011), 14 1/2" by 10 3/4" (20 1/2" by 16 3/4" framed), featuring the famous and often-painted Brulatour Courtyard in New Orleans. Fruge painted mostly watercolors and was a familiar and beloved part of the Jackson Square tourist scene in New Orleans for decades. He painted mainly French Quarter scenes but also on occasion works such as bayou swamp landscape. Fruge's art traveled home with innumerable tourists, accounting for their geographical dispersion. He is said to have been still painting while in his 90's. Online information suggests a death date of 2011 or 2012; some show a birth date of 1914. The artist's impressionist style is distinctive and recognizable at a distance. This piece, a bit larger in dimensions than many examples, is in excellent condition, the colors fresh and unfaded. An old small paper label on reverse apparently in the hand of the artist gives his name, and "623 Royal St. N.O. La". Allow for reflections in several images.
