A rare commemorative white porcelain cup produced by the Fukagawa Arita Company (purveyors to the Imperial Family) inscribed in gold with “A toast to Prince Akihito & Princess Michiko 1959.” The rim is gilt and below it is the gold Japanese Imperial Chrysanthemum Seal. The chrysanthemum flower is also the symbol of Japan and of longevity and rejuvenation. Under the foot is the Fukagawa Arita Company seal and the words “Hand-painted and Made in Japan.” The unusual shape features a thin conical flaring bowl, a sturdy stem encircled with 8 orbs, and foot with a subtle pentagonal outline that culminates in a squared base. Height: 4 inches
