Japanese Sterling Silver & Enamel Censor

Description & Size: 10.79 x 12.7 cm (4.25" x 5"); Weight: 257 gram (9.06 oz)

Age: 1868 - 1912 Meiji Period; Material: Sterling Silver & Cloisonné enamel; Production: Handcrafted & hand hammered

This is a nice & fine production of a Japanese Sterling Silver & Censor Circa: 1868 - 1912 Meji, with cloisonné enamel added to garden flowers, & sparrows. The silver censor is beautifully crafted with surrounding medium & low reliefs of water ponds, bays, sparrows, & garden flowers (wisterias, roses, chrysanthemums, iris). The silver censor body is etched with clear border on top & individually hand hammered around with medium reliefs of bays and strolling water. A couple of sparrows are added between the broquets of flowers as they're in flight. Between the water irises is a medium relief in a form of a silver"'wooden dock". The silver censor comes with a lid decorated with scroll wines of wisterias & an etched silver arabesque finial knob, the body also comes with a unique tripod legs as support. It has one minor ding (.8cm) on the lower portion of the body, some sporatic production silver soldered spots & a manufactured imperfection on one of the sparrow tail wing which can be seen missing a small portion of the right tail. It's in excellent condition for its age & signed on the bottom.
