Kathleen Hyland-Nesvig Abstract Painter. “The King Fisher” Oil 24”x24” Kathleen’s work has been shown in the US department of State as well as many embassies around the world. She is known for her sumptuous Expressionist abstraction work. Kathleen said she had a vision to paint as a young girl and her parents bought her a paint box while she was recovering from an illness. She later studied in France Communicates through her work in an unique, exciting expression of spiritual energy. Her paintings reflect the emotional, spiritual force which comes from within all of us. BACKGROUND Attended the Corcoran Gallery Art School in Washington, DC Studied under colorist Gene Davis and internationally known artist Sam Gilliam. Worked with Leon Berkowitz, leader of 50's East Coast Color Movement. Studied at the Vermont Studio School with Elmer Bishop and Stanley Boxer. Attended the University of London ACCOMPLISHMENTS 1983 Solo show at the American Bank, Washington, DC First Prize at group exhibit by Virginia Artists. 1985 1986 1987 1988 Two Solo shows at the Pergola Gallery in Mexico. Group show with Rivera, Siqueros, Nierman, and Tamayo in Mexico City. Sold out. Group show with Avery and Raushenburg at the American Embassy, Mexico City. Group show, Corcoran, Washington, DC Group show, The Foundry, Washington, DC Group show, Institute for Political Studies, Washington, DC Group show, Park Place, Washington, DC Received First Prize in group show of 60 artists judged by the curator of the Rodin Museum of Art, Tallyrand, Paris. Group alumnae show at the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minn. Private showing Minneapolis, Minn., courtesy of Mr. And Mrs. John Rogers. Three major works are on exhibit at the US Embassy in Berlin. Thirty-three paintings are with the Art in Embassy Program.
