Hallmarks date this Valentin Vidaurreta book-piece 1948-1955. Vidaurreta designed jewelry for himself, William Spratling, Fred Davis, and Hector Aguilar. As well he was a painter and illustrator. This very rare piece is shown on p.89 of "Silver Seduction : The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda". With an art nouveau design, it is an exquisitely crafted pin. It is also collector quality.
Measures 2 5/16" x 1 3/8".
Weight is 24 grams.
Signed and hallmarked "Valentin .940 Taxco Mexico", with the eagle assay 9.
In excellent vintage condition. Pin closes with a roller. Amethyst is hand-carved and polished with natural inclusions and quartz marbling.
