This is a stunning photo-micrograph taken from the surface of a portion of the hilt flange. There is a prominent band of banded green malachite (Copper Carbonate Hydroxide—Cu2(CO3)(OH)2) running through the red, oxidized metal matrix which is likely Copper Oxide (cuprite—Cu2O). The magnification is 100X. This is a positive indicator of antiquity.
