Stunning, extremely rare sterling silver and amethyst twin angels necklace designed and signed in the early 1940's by surrealist Taxco, Mexico artist Hubert Harmon. The angels are suspended from the original black leather and suede ribbon ending with a bow tie clasp. The necklace measures 15 1/2 wearable inches long. Together the twin angel pendants measure measure 5 1/4" across and stand 2 1/2 high. Signed on the reverse with Harmon's upturned soles and angel wings along with HUBERT HARMON MADE IN MEXICO STERLING. Beautiful condition with no dents, dings are chips. A large cuff bracelet of a similar design is pictured on p. 136 of MEXICAN SILVER by Penny Morrill and Carol Berke. Morrill's chapter on Harmon gives interesting insight into his inspiration for this necklace design. A single Harmon amethyst angel brooch is featured on p. 107 in WILLIAM SPRATLING AND THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE. Truly a museum quality wearable work of art.
