It is a type of weapon, a thick iron rod with warts on it. In pictures of demons, it refers to the stick that demons are holding in their hands. In Japan, there is a saying, "Kanabo for demons". If you equip a strong demon with a powerful weapon, a metal rod, it will become even stronger. This is a parable about someone who is already strong and becomes even more powerful by having something added to them. It is also a parable of how an excellent person becomes even more outstanding when something suitable is added to him. It is dated as Man'en gannen : 1860, which is one of the Japanese era and the period 1860-1861, which is existed only one year.
Yokoyama Seiki (1792-1864) was a Japanese artist active in the late Edo period, late 18th century. He was one of the leading artists from Maruyama Shijo school painting. He learnt under a prominent artist Matsumura Keibun(1779-1843) and adept at bird and flower as well as landscape, and depicting figures.
Some insignificant light marks are present on the painting itself, otherwise the piece is in very good condition. Some light marks and crease are present on the scroll mounting, otherwise it is in good condition. It is accompanied by a paulownia wood storage box.
