Late Edo Period (1603-1868) Ko Takatori small Chawan named "Kiyomoto" decorated with a single plum blossoming branch, with box signed by 8th gen. Yabunouchi tea ceremony school Grandmaster Shinshinsai Chikuho Jochi (1792-1869).

Shinshinsai Chikuho Jochi (1792-1869) lived during the time of Meiji restoration which deprived Japan of many features of a sovereign nation and costed millions of lives. He devoted himself to protecting the school's traditions, examining the inheritance books and establishing the school's etiquette.

Since around 1845, he has been working as a tea ceremony instructor for Imperial Princess Kazunomiya. A set of tea ceremony utensils was made by his order as furnishings for Kazunomiya's marriage.

The school's founder, Yabunouchi Kenchu Jochi (1536-1627) studied the Tea Ceremony with Sen no Rikyu from Takeno Joo who introduced an artistic sensitivity for the tea utensils and the thought that emphasizes a simple, austere type of beauty and a serene mind. The founder formed the foundation of this art at its dawn with Sen no Rikyu and his brother in law, Furuta Oribe.
