Late 1960s early 1970s ELC marked "Roke's Drift" red and blue glazed Zulu plate with a raku tupe glaze , the body seems to have some animal hair mixed in the clay body. A nice piece with beautiful colors and texture. There is a chip at the edge as seen in pictures. D 7.2" h 1.3" The ELC Art and Craft Centre were started in 1962 by Peder and Ulla Gowenius. This arose out of a committee formed in 1961 in Stockholm, Sweden, for the advancement of African art and craft. The Evangelical Lutheran Church Art and Craft Centre at Rorke's Drift, Natal, had a significant impact on the development of South African art and craft in the 1960s and 1970s.
