This satin glass basket was produced in the United States in the late 19th century. The exact manufacturer is unknown. It was probably made by a New England glass company. It is 10 1/2 inches high and 7 3/4 inches in width. It is made of cased satin glass, white on the outside and striped with shades of rose coloring inside. A fine tinsel, or foil, painting. The relatively uncommon subject matter is a basket of fruit, nicely reverse painted on glass with tinsel backing. What unfortunately doesn't show well in the photo, because of the lighting, is the bunch of grapes directly under the basket.

The painting is in very good condition, with what is probably its original gilded frame and wood backing. The overall size is 16" by 14".
