A pair of very detailed molded porcelain figures of standing pigeons. The glaze is slightly blue/green. On close examination it is clear that though they were made from the same mold, the details of the lines in the feathers, breasts and the bases were done by hand. A three-color overshot coverlet with a pattern of snowballs and stripes on the dark ground side. The border on three sides is wavy lines and the fringe is a continuation of the white warp threads on the bottom and the red and blue weft threads on the sides. The warp is cotton and the weft is wool. The seam down the middle indicates that it was done on a narrow loom, though the sophisticated design and the three colors suggest that it was woven by a professional. This pair of earthenware vases was produced in France by Paul Milet in the 1890s. They measure 8 3/8 inches high and the diameter of the opening is 2 ½ inches. The decoration is the epitome of Art Nouveau design. Anemones bend and sway while turquoise dragonflies hover overhead. Clover-like turquoise colored leaves encircle the bases of the two vases.
