This porcelain butterfly was produced in Thuringia, Germany by the Schwarza-Saalbahn factory around 1900. Similar porcelain objects have been produced by Karl Ens of Volkstedt. The butterfly is 6 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches high. It is made of hard paste porcelain and is decorated with brightly colored high glazed enamels. There is raised enamel beading and gilded accents. This is a later copy, after 1887 when the factory was taken over by Albert Baumi and the old models revived. Nymphenburg shield and the numbers 59 and 0 impressed on the underside. 4 5/8 inches (11.7 cm) tall and 5 3/8 inches (13.5 cm) across the base.
