A marvelous and very rare Victorian patchbox, the body carved from a single piece of ivory and the cut crystal lid enclosing a cameo incrustation (“sulphide”) depicting a pansy. A ribbon tied around the flower’s stem reads “a moi”. This is a clever play on words. The French word for pansy is “pensé”, which is very nearly the same word used to mean “thought”. So, when combined with the words on the ribbon, the sulphide expresses the sentiment “Thoughts of me”...

The outside surface has a matte finish except along the lip, the foot rim and the knop rim, each of which is decorated with gilt lines. This crystal dresser jar was produced in Belgium in the early 20th century. It is not signed but we believe it was made by Val St. Lambert. We have seen this pattern before. The jar measures 3 3/8 inches in diameter and 2 1/8 inches high. The crystal is hand blown and cut with panels and star bursts. A very good jasper ground glass paperweight by St. Louis. The sole decoration is the pink and white jasper cushion which completely fills the dome. The glass is heavy and nicely clear. The polished concave bottom has relatively wide basal ring.

A classic Baccarat cut crystal perfume bottle in a cranberry-cut-to-clear cane pattern. While several American and European companies cut this pattern, the stopper of this bottle is a known Baccarat design. A bowl, originally a finger bowl, and three small ”ladies” wine glasses, the bowl c. 1840, the glasses Napoléon III c. 1860-80. All in the bleu céleste colour en vogue in France in the 19th century and all with the same “bubbly” texture. The glasses with polished pontil marks. Height of bowl "3¼/8,5 cm, diameter "4½/ 11 cm, height of glasses "3¼/ 8,5 cm. Condition: fine.

This fine antique Baccarat bottle with its optic swirl device was created in the Rubina style which features and red to clear coloration. The jar has a weight worthy of its pedigree, and dates to early 20th century. The hollow stopper is marked with the same number as the base of the bottle, confirming that the two are a match.

Condition is excellent though the glass may have manufacturing imperfections.
