Lace collar, probably linen. Was offered for sale in 1908 in London by the Windsor auction house, appraised by a certain Mr Knox as being a rose point lace, Venetian work from middle 17th century or a later French copy from the period of the reign of Louis XIV. The lace is kept in a wall display frame, it is placed on a Chinese silk background with secret embroidery, visible only in raking light. On the back of the frame is stuck the original of the expertise...

A fine 17th century French tapestry table runner, with the motif weaving flowers and fruit throughout the piece. The overall condition is excellent, with no holes or tears. Carefully laid down on a linen backing. The length is 67" and the width is 13 3/4".

Acquired from a long time private collection, where it was used as a table display piece, but could certainly be used, in smaller segments, to make a number of exquisite pillows.

A fine cotton exemplar textile fragment from Perugia, Italy, dating back to the 16th century. Foliage and mythological figures, distinctive themes used in Perugia, cover the piece which has been carefully mounted on a cotton covered board.

Overall condition is very fine, with some minor and easily cleaned surface dirt. The size is 21" by 9".

A fine example of a textile fragment from a 17th century chausable, purple cut velvet in a geometric vine design on a yellow background, mounted on silk. Overall fine condition, with a sight size of 18" by 18 1/2".

A wonderful exemplar of an Italian voided velvet textile, done in a deep red. Similar examples are shown in "European Textiles in the Keir Collection 400BC to 1800AD".

The overall condition is excellent, and the sight size is 21 3/4" by 8 1/2".

Provenance: The Spinx Collection

An exceptional and rare Italian cut and voided velvet panel, probably Genovese, done in a dark green on a beige foundation. The motif features mythological animals and urns, all surrounded by foliate scrolls.

The condition is quite fine, even for a textile 250 years younger. The length is 64 1/2", with a width of 10 1/2".

A superb piece for display or use as an accent, and should appeal to collectors and decorators.

A beautiful early 17th century silk floss textile embroidered with a variety of flowers in a panoply of colors. The central section has larger and more elaborate examples, while the borders have smaller meandering flora. Most probably of Italian origin.

The condition is quite fine, and the dimensions are 67" by 16". This wonderful piece has been part of my collection for 25 years and has not been previously shown or offered.

Ningxia Mirror Back Rug with diaper ground and floral scrolling foliate borders, Mid 18th Century Dimensions: 4'5"l, 2'4"w Provenance: The Francisco G. Zarate Collection of Oriental Rugs (Note: I sold this rug to Francisco in the late 90's, such a beautiful piece I was glad to buy it back from his estate)

An 18th c French yellow silk underdress front, beautifully and heavily embroidered with metallic threads. The overall size is 27 1/2" by 19". The condition is good, with some scattered wear and pulls. It could highly benefit from a careful pressing.

How often do you see a flame stitch mat? This one still has vibrant color. The foundation is a loomed homespun. It has a spider web fringe that is so fine and beautiful. I have taken pictures of the 3 areas of with condition problems. There are two small holes and one larger one. The fringe also is sparse in many areas around the mat. That said this is a rare form of flame stitch and is paper thin and very finely woven. It is mid 1700's and is 6" by 11".

A beautiful and vibrant chausable set from the mid 18th century, comprised of the chausable, the maniple, the chalice cover, and mat. The deep, rich purple damask of the material is set off by the intricate embroidered orphrey on the chausable and maniple. Even the cover and mat, made of the same damask, have embroidered crosses on them, and are bordered with metallic thread. Overall condition is very good, with some scattered splits and stains.

1830-40 velvet reticule theorem purse In nice condition with some age darkening. It is all hand sewn, lined with fine homespun linen. No rips or tears but there is loss of most of the ribbon trim around the outside edges. It is 8 1/2" top to bottom and 8" across at the widest point.

The design of this sitting mat from the oasis of Khotan in East Turkestan is closely related to a larger rug published by Schürmann, which shows the same motif in a design of two compartments. – Many rewoven sections in the pile, restored ends, new overcasting along the sides. A beautiful and very early 18th century bizarre silk fragment, from a chausable of the period. Vegetal and flower motifs in polychrome silk, silver and gold thread on a salmon ground, the entire piece mounted on cotton. Excellent overall condition, with some expected oxidation of the metallic threads. The panel itself is 28" in length, and 9 3/4" at its widest. The mounted size is 30 1/4" by 11 1/4"...

A girl's or woman's silk cap embroidered with flowers, highlighted with polychrome sequins. Edged with gold lace, linen lining and silk ribbon loop. Condition: traces of age, patina. Dimension cap closed: c. 23.2 cm high x 14.3 cm wide.

A Khotan Coffered Gul Carpet - Late Eighteenth Century, N.W. China Size 6'3". x 3'3"

Signed, Wm. S. Morgan, Somerset Co, 1872, this woven wool coverlet was made in Somerset County in Jenner Township, Pennsylvania. In 1870, the factory employed ten workers and produced a variety of woolen goods, including blankets and coverlets. Condition is good, but does have some damage, please study photos. Measures 66" x 72".

Rare 18th century New England sampler from Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Circa 1784. Size: 10.5 inches x 8.25 inches. An early needlework sampler made by Rhoda Symonds at age 16. Rhoda Symonds was born in Essex, Massachusetts in 1768 and moved with her family to Hillsborough, New Hampshire in either 1772 or 1773. The sampler indicates that she was aged 16 when she created it, suggesting a date in 1784...

A rich golden background to a continuous vine motif entwined around alternating blue and white stripes; 25 1/2" by 22"

This is a lovely piece of 18th C European needlework, brilliant true-colored, made of vegetable dyed threads on very fine open weave homespun linen, having pulled work in the flower centers, metallic threads within the flower stems and a symmetrical block pattern, Spanish or Italian, likely a piece of curtain or clothing; Condition: Good with some stitch loss framed in glass with blue matting which does not do this piece justice, measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2 "

A Ningxia Maze Medallion Seat Mat, 18th Century Provenance: Koos de Jong collection Dimensions: approx. 70 x 65 cm, good condition

A spectacular and beautiful circa 1730 English silk embroidered apron front, exquisitely embroidered in polychrome silk and metallic threads with garlands and sprays of flowers urns. Scalloped edges are finished with embroidered metallic trim. A somewhat later but very similar example is shown in The Lotus Collection.

There are some scattered unimportant splits and very very minor and small spots of discoloration, all to be expected in such a delicate piece...

A beautiful French embroidered brocaded and woven textile piece, composed of 4 segments sewn together, edged with an attached border of metallic threaded textile, and backed with yellow silk.

Overall condition is excellent, with vibrant colors and no holes or repairs. The overall size is 43 1/2" by 36".

Antique Persian Safavid textile brocaded with silk and gold. Lined with a later 19th century brocade. Approximately 26" square.

This is a pair of linen homespun pillow cases that are more like show towels. The linen is very finely woven, the pulled thread work, borders the top and bottom of the name and date. The embroidered name and date is done in a wool floss and has not done as well with use as the body of the pillow case. Her name is Barbara Wismer, I think, and the date is 1829. There is no question they were used and laundered but they are in great condition with a bit of age related toning in places...

This work towel is made for use but is also very beautiful. I think it is linen one way and cotton the other way. (warp and weft). It has a feel and sheen of linen but also has the flat look of cotton. It is in very good condition, has the original loop for hanging it up, and is hemmed on both sides of the towel. The initials are sewn with a brown floss and I think the initials are MLW. The width is 15 ", length 42". It is supple yet sturdy and had a wonderful rustic country look...

Early 1800's petit point embroidery of a young girl holding a bird. Protected under glass in an oval frame it is in remarkably good condition with the colors still being vibrant. Measures in frame 10.75" high x 8.5" across.

This is a Japanese antique Boro shibori and katazome hanjyuban jacket textile Edo period (1800－1867). The sleeve part natural Indigo dye cotton katazome. The body and back are silk safflower dyed shibori(Tie-dyeing) . The collar and lining are cotton. The fabric on the collar is a very nice Edo period cotton. This is a precious indigo-dyed striped hemp child kimono Edo period (1800-1867). It is a natural material. It's very charming. No stains or damage. I recommend it for your collection. Size::Length 50cm(19.7inch) / Cuff to cuff, across the back: (26inch)

An early 19th c silk damask vestment with a floral and crown motif. The orphrey portion dates from the 17th century. Actually in quite good condition, with some scattered wear. 46" in length.

Antique true linen homespun table mat in a deep indigo blue and a natural unbleached white. The mat is 12" square and has just the slightest age discoloration in one corner, see photos. This is a wonderful very early example. Circa 1830

Circa 1830 from Pennsylvania, this pieced cotton quilt features the North Star pattern. All hand stitched, it has strong geometric shapes. Colors are red, white and various purples. A little worn around the edges, color is still good, considered to be in very good condition commensurate with age. Coverlet fits over a double bed. From the estate of Mike Biggers.

A wonderful early woman's pocket made from a roller print with the colors of madder, brown and mustard. It is backed with a homespun linen fabric. All hand sewn. The front of the pocket is lined with the same linen homespun and the back. The fabric is fragile in some of the black areas where the tannic acid dye has weakened fabric. It is priced accordingly and is by no means falling apart. It is 13 1/2" top to bottom and is 5 " across the to and 9" across the bottom...

Dated September 4th 1832, this lovely needlepoint saying titled "On Virtue" is surrounded with intricately embroidered flowers. In a bird's eye maple frame it measures 19.75" x 16.5", sight size 15" x 11.5". In very good antique condition, the background has darkened some with age (the first 2 photos showing the frame is most color correct.) Please note that the textile is not lighter on the bottom, it is a reflection as well as other light colored reflections coming from the glass.

Nice early blue and white cotton homespun handkerchief that has been used and loved and survived pretty well considering it is about 200 years old...

This is a very interesting piece created by an early artist very skilled in needlework: an oval shaped map of England and Wales and small parts of Ireland, Scotland and France, the oval measuring approximately 19 1/2" by 17" (about 27" by 22 1/2" in the vintage gold frame). Judging from the seated figure of Britannia and the lettering and overall handling, I'd estimate this to date to the late 18th or early 19th century. Note the clipper ship near Britannia, as well as the early, quaint lette...

A fine multicolored velvet ikat from Uzbekistan, carefully mounted on acid free fabric. The condition is quite fine with one very small area with some thread separation, and the sight size is 20 1/2" by 15 1/2".

A very nice child size red, white and blue checked bonnet. It has the cardboard stays that are removable so the bonnet can be washed. I like this feature because you can hang the bonnet on a peg rack so much easier without the stays. It is in good condition it just one spot at the very top of the brim...see picture. It is 13" top to bottom and 9" front to back.

This is a hand sewn and hand quilted antique doll quilt circa 1850-60. It is random and naïve and very pleasing to the eye. It has been professionally mounted. I love hanging these doll quilts on fronts and backs of doors. (I have run out of wall space!) This one is 16" by 16" and mounted 18" by 18".

This is what I call a down home or servicable antique pot holder. It looks like a odd apple with a tummy sash. It is sewn nicely but with a childish feeling to it. I am sure it was used but care was taken with it. The loop at the top looks original. It is a very nice naive pot holder from the 1840's. It is 4" by 5". I love seeing these hung.

A three-color overshot coverlet with a pattern of snowballs and stripes on the dark ground side. The border on three sides is wavy lines and the fringe is a continuation of the white warp threads on the bottom and the red and blue weft threads on the sides. The warp is cotton and the weft is wool. The seam down the middle indicates that it was done on a narrow loom, though the sophisticated design and the three colors suggest that it was woven by a professional. 25 1/2" by 26" red, white and blue neckerchief, hand hemmed with the tiniest of stitches. It is in excellent condition and has embroidered initials LZ in one corner. It came in a textile lot of shaker items. LZ in one corner. Circa 1840

Antique flannel dog filled with grain or sawdust that makes him feel like a bean bag and allows him to stand nicely. He has big bead eyes and replaced floppy ears. The original ears must have been further back where you see a white patch. That patch is white flannel that hasn't gotten dirty. He has a couple of mends but is old and nice and has a bit of a worried look. He is 7 1/2" long and 6" tall. (His ears are a wool knit fabric that looks like they have been there for a while.) Early antique homespun cotton handkerchief in blue and white. It is very tightly woven and soft to the touch. It has two initials M and H. This is an American and possibly Shaker made. It is 17 1/2" by 19 1/2". The condition is excellent with some slight age discoloration. This was made for longevity! Circa 1830-40.

A fine and rare example of the antique, circa 1850 "kupka - kupke," a cap with wig. This type of Kupka was worn by well-to-do religious Jewish women on the Sabbath and holidays in Poland in the 19th century.

This magnificent Kupka is finely embellished in the highest quality of Spanier Arbeit, with embroidery of intricate patterns with gilt silver thread and bullion, decorated with small globular silver bids, and an interior with silk lining.

A colorful Uzbeki velvet Ikat textile fragment in a striking plethora of colors. In good overall condition and mounted on linen. The sight size is 20" by 16" and the overall size is 23 1/2" by 19 1/4".

Very nice poplar Shaker bonnet with a label marking the size as a 5. They were also made in size #6 and size #7. The bonnets were sold by the Shakers in their gift shops but they were not made by the Shakers. This one is in very good condition. It does have a few brown stains at the top of the brim edge, see photo. This is just about as good as you can get for this type of Shaker bonnet.

Needlework sampler, 22 1/2" by 17" (26" by 20" framed), the design incorporating the alphabet, floral motifs, a heart, four paired figures and a house. Condition is excellent, the colors not faded. This would date to circa 1970's; a so-called "Paragon" kit available at the time. Nice decorative piece for the Americana or folk art setting.

An interesting fragment of Victorian needlework, the somewhat shiny black (chintz, silk?) fragment of an irregular shape, later laid on a dull black linen backing to attempt to match the color, the final result currently round and 12 1/2" diameter, and 19 1/2" on a side in a new square frame (in excellent condition) with clean mat. This is a very nice egg wash chintz brown calico bag with a tan linen lining. It has a ribbon trim across the top and around the edges of the bag. The edges only have a little of the ribbon trim left, it has worn off over the years. The bag is in really good shape and is not fragile, it could be really used. Or great to use to store items while hanging off a hook or peg rack. 10" by 13" not including the straps. Circa 1870-80

Someone with a sense of humor gave this dear old flannel sheep blue floss eyes and brown eye lashes all the way around. She is big, 10" long including his tail and 6" tall even with her legs askew. Poor design or bad eating habits preventing her from standing on all fours. She has a great smile on her face and floppy ears with finishing stitches around the edges. She is a very sweet old gently played with late 19th C. toy lamb.

This is a well washed and loved red calico doll quilt. It is mostly treadle machine stitched with some hand sewing. The backing is a brown and cream calico print with a brown calico boarder on both front and back. It is very soft, faded a couple of tiny holes that gives it that great old worn look. This is my kind of quilt, old and worn and I realize it is not for everyone. It is 16" square and is from the 1890's with a Pennsylvania verbal history. (I love it.)

Fabulous homespun black wool blanket with the best bittersweet color stripes at both ends. It is very soft and in very good condition but not mint. It has a later hand sewn edge on one end that is coming loose in a couple of places and there are a few small thin areas. It is 68" by 60" and it makes quite a statement. It is not as early as the center seam blankets but it makes up for it in looks.

This Antique Buffalo Hide Carriage Blanket is in excellent condition with just a small area indicating some minor loss; edges beyond the red zigzag border have shredding in a few areas. This is a Shaker hand sewn needle case make by the Shaker sisters and sold in their gift shops. It is a brown and beige silk fabric with a white flannel interior to hold the pins and needles. It is 4" by 4". and is in nice condition with wear to a bit of the ribbon.

This antique Amish mat is hand braided and really nicely hand sewn. It is in near perfect condition with some minor surface abrasion. It is very tightly braided and to the touch it feels like it has some wool in the fabric. The colors are a green/blue, pink and purple. I lies perfectly flat on the table. 10" by 13" Late 19th C.
