English Chippindale period Mahogany Looking Glass, Mirror, Ca. 1780, 37" high, 20 1/2" wide, 1 1/4" deep, original Gilded Phoenix Bird in the center reticulated open framed top, original glass mirror bordered by original gold inner frame. A pair of black papier mache wine bottle coasters, each beautifully hand painted with a colorful bird within a red and gilt cartouche. The form is quite rare, with more common versions made of silver or silver plate. Because of the date, and the quality exhibited in these, it is quite probable that they were made by Jennens and Bettridge (fl. 1815-1864), the English firm most respected for this type work.

The coasters are 6 1/4" in diameter and 1/2" in depth...
