A Chinese SONG YUAN DYNASTY (960-1297) Celadon Bowl swiftly incised with a rare butterfly-like design/pattern. The foot of the bowl remains unglazed and has some original soil deposit as this is a river find. Very fine condition, no chips, hairlines, restorations nor repairs. The age is certain because I bought it 50 years ago and in 1970 there were no copies of Tang ceramics of such small size, the only copies that were made at that time were of important subjects, large horses, camels and riders.... Tall Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Foreigner Figure

This fine pottery model of a foreign groom was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been cold-painted in a base coat of white pigment on top of which is black pigment in places. At the end of the arms are purpose-made holes where originally would have been fixed separate hands, probably made of wood and now long since rotted away and lost...

Antique Chinese tomb pottery figure of an ox with bridle and harness. Modeled with large eyes and a friendly expression, this ox was made to loyally serve it's owner in the afterlife. Made of terra-cotta with traces of brown, black and white slip pigment.

Terracotta horse from the Wei period. The clay is gray. It is of very good quality. There are traces of red polychromy and there is still gilding on the rump. This gilding is composed of thick gold leaves that we call in French goldsmith's trade a "feuillard" it's thicker than the classic leaf to gild the furniture. In the past, I read somewhere that gilding was only applied on Wei or Tang terracotta on princely tombs. (To be verified)...

Antique Chinese Jun ware bowl. Made of earthenware and glazed a light blue color with a purple splash that is dripping toward the center. The rim is a brown color where the glaze is thinest and the foot is left unglazed as was the tradition with Jun ware. The blue and purple colors are made with straw ash in the glaze. Looking closely, a subtle crackle, pitting and rivulets of mixing colors can be seen...
