DESCRIPTION: A fine red and gilt Chinese scholar's ink cake in circular form with the front and back molded in relief in the form of a foo dog (shi shi) with tightly curled mane. Both the front and back have raised Chinese characters in relief. Excellent condition in original box, and dating from the first quarter of the 20th C. or earlier. DIMENSIONS: 2 ¾” diameter (7 cm).

Late Qing Dynasty (pre 1911) Chinese scholar jadeite seal of irregular rectangular shape. Does not photograph well. Wonderful austere piece appropriate for a scholar’s table, pleasant finish to the stone. The bottom is carved with two raised characters, red seal paste in the grooves. Off-white natural untreated jadeite with touch of green and russet skin areas. Imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Height 1 11/16 inches.

Rather unusual late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) small scholar’s rock in a form of anthracite nugget on dark hardwood stand. Very unusual material for a scholar’s rock - anthracite is type of coal of a hard variety that contains relatively pure carbon. Rich black surface, natural lines in the material, in great condition. Height with stand 1 5/8 inches, stone length 1 7/8 inches, stand length 3 inches.

Unusual 1930s good size and weight Chinese puddingstone seal of classic square section, the imprint of the seal is shown on the first photo. Superbly cut beautiful natural stone with mesmerizing subtle play of colors. The bottom is carved with 4 sunken characters that can be translated as HALL OF TOTAL RIGHTEOUSNESS.
