Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Jar
This sturdy storage jar dates to the 12th - 14th centuries. It is quite "heavily-potted" and has a rolled rim with four loo-handles speared equidistant around the shoulder. The streaky yellowish-brown glaze falls short of the unglazed base. Most likely it was made for export to south-east Asia.
Height 15.5 cm...

The glaze stops above the unglazed foot. 6 7/8” high. Circa 12th/13th century. Very good overall condition with a barely visible old break to the horns (see closeup image). The lighter areas on the surface of the glaze are burial encrustations...

A quite similar dish, just for example, can be found in the University of Sussex - collection ( Jameelcentre, Ashmolean ). Dark-brown stoneware-body with green-crackled glaze. Produced at Longquan- or Ge-ware kiln. Long-Quan, Chekiang- or Zhejiang province. Song - Yuan Dynasty 13th - 14th century. Diameter : 13,8 cm. Condition : Perfect.

Excavated in Kalimantan, Borneo.
The piece is small, like most of the Song Geyao items, the shape is like Song, the glaze is like Song, but the clay ( porcelaneous ) looks different, and so unfortunately I have to be confident, that it must be a 18th century piece.
What is confusing, is, that the piece was excavated together with some broken, ordinary Song pieces, and that there have not been found any other Qing material at this lokation.
The piece is very nice, and in a perfect condition...
