During the Qing Dynasty, the feathers of the kingfisher bird were used to create ornaments for woman to attach to clothing and/or wear in their hair...
Through the 1800's These ornaments were made and formed with heavy paper (light weight cardboard...)
They had large areas of feathers and the edges of the paper form were bordered with gold paint...and the ornaments were often domed
By the early 1900's the bird were becoming rare almost extinct ...so intricate and smaller sections of fea...
The whole body, except for the top, is carved in relief with lingzhi fungus of hardwood of rosewood family. The waist, the apron, and the connecting joints are also decorated. The legs are slight cabriole leg with block carved hoof feet.

Chinese carving of immortals on a boat, made entirely of Zitan hardwood. The boat appears to be made of an ancient, gnarled tree sprouting flowers, with its canopy of leaves covering the passengers underneath. The 3 male immortal figures sit huddled closely around a lingzhi mushroom, which holds medicinal properties and is a symbol of longevity. One female immortal peers into the waters at the side of the boat with bottles of medicine at her side...
Diameter approximately 13 cm. There is a soft chip at the rim. In good condition.

A Chinese porcelain water pipe made for the Imperial Palace in Hue. Decoration of dragons in cobalt blue underglaze. Below 4 characters in blue and, which is unusual, 4 other characters incised under glassure, perhaps the mark of the potter or the commander. The silver setting of very good quality is a fine example of fine goldsmith's work, it is perhaps -be Chinese but more probably Annamese...
