Exquisite antique Japanese fluted Imari vase with special scallop edge and containing intricate patterns of flowers, scrolls, hu-birds and geometric designs. This beautiful vase is of dark blue underglaze with gold, red and orange-red overglaze. Underglazed foot has orange clay body. Flowers are painted in red and highlights of gold. An attractive mokko (lobed) and moulded dish decorated with a figure seated beneath mist enshrouded trees. The cavetto is moulded with swirls and flowers, the rim with a dark iron rich kuchibeni dressing.

19th century Edo period (before 1867) Japanese porcelain Hirado plate with scalloped edge and underglaze blue decoration of a dragon in pursuit of a tama (Sacred Gem). Excellent potting, milky white body and clear glaze. Great early painting with charming freedom, wonderful dynamic design - see the flames issuing from the body of the dragon. Some surface wear as to be expected, overall in great condition. Diameter 7 1/4 inches.

A very unusual export dish decorated with an aubergine enamelled dragon set against a black ground and green clouds in a circle with a central Chrysanthemum motif. The border painted in a three colour Imari palette of Peonies and Irises. The reverse is undecorated.
The dish is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or restoration...

From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowers in the center medallion, and panels of prunus and karakusa in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt. This is a rich and gorgeous piece with great presence.
Size and Condition: A large piece at 17 1/2 inches in diameter, 2 1/2 inches deep...

A finely potted Hirado dish featuring three figures wearing capes and carrying heavy packages upon their backs descending down a high mountain trail. Inferred by the small gnarled Pine trees on the wayside. Although no particular scene is identifiable the figures are in Hokusai “style”.
The reverse is painted with a Karakusa arabesque and has a single spur mark within the base of the footring. The dish dates to the late Edo period and the middle of the 19th century...
