An Asian wood cookie press. Folk art (Japanese or Korean - if Japanese would be considered "Mingei") utilitarian object. The "cookies", or treats, pressed from this mechanism could have been sweetened bean paste, possibly with rice starch, and not necessarily cooked. The iron nails slide along routing to enable the pressing action. Well used and in fair condition - exhibiting some distress by loss of wood on ends of the top board. A nicely decorative curiosity. Rather unusual late 19th century Chinese glass seal in a shaped of a stylized rock. Beautiful transparent glass, excellent finish to the surface. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). The bottom is crisply carved with four raised characters that can be translated as THE HALL WHERE KINDNESS is CULTIVATED, old dried red seal paste in the grooves. Very nice object for scholar’s desk...

A Japanese white glazed studio porcelain model of a water buffalo. Hirado type though the eyes are not left unglazed to the biscuit as is typical. Holding sculpted form and details well, the biscuit base smooth to the touch and bearing an imprint from the fabric it sat upon. Except for a clean break to one horn, in otherwise good condiiton. A line of separation of the glaze under the buffalo's neck due to "crawling" in the kiln. Length, about 14 inches horn tip to tail...

1920's Chinese Silver White Jade Carved Goldfish, Shrimp & Crab Necklace

It is 20.27 inches (51.5 cm) in length. The inner circumference is 17.7 inches (45 cm). The jade carved goldfish range from 20.88 mm to 21.80 mm in length. It weighs 40.4 gram.

The silver is tarnished and has surface wears and scratches. Two of the jade goldfish have flea bite chips. Some of the jade carved gold fish have inclusions and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos)...

Antique Thai gilt cast bronze figure of a recumbent temple deer. These sika deer are closely associated with the Buddha because of his "Teaching in the Deer Park" in Sarnath. Buddha's teaching, or "Spinning the Wheel of the Law" further links the deer to this sacred event. Thus deer are often depicted with the Wheel of the Law, or Dharmachakra in a temple setting...

An attractive hammered silver bowl, with an scetchy incised animal in the center of the interior and multible concenthric lines around. It looks like a simple bird, but it needs more cleaning to be certain!

Size: ca. 17 cm. wide and 6 cm. tall.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) small Chinese Canton enamel covered box for seal paste painted on the top with polychrome enamels depicting a Chinese lady with a fan in a garden, border of flower spray reserves and scrolling vines. Nice quality painting with famille rose colors, all dark spots are original pitting marks. Quiet item for a scholar’s desk. Height 1 inch, diameter 2 1/4 inches.
