Mask of the "Nuo" esoteric theater representing the character of Bao Gong, or Judge Bao, also named "King of Inferno" because he also goes down to visit the Inferno to inquire about the souls. The mask was carved on wood on which lacquer and polychrome pigments were painted. China, mid-19th century. Height: 12 1/4" (30,5 cm). Old insect damage (no more danger), otherwise good condition.

Nuo theater mask representing the smiling Tudigong, the god of the soil and of cereals in ancient Chinese mythology, wearing a formal cap. Wood, with traces of lacquer, fine dark patina. China, early 19th century, maybe older. Height: 11 1/4" (28,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old local restorations from top to bottom, otherwise good condition.

Important mask of Mahakala, with a fierce expression, his forehead surmounted by a sort of diadem sustaining a range of tiny skulls . Finely embossed iron, with detailed features, and polychrome pigments to enhance some of the mask parts (eyes, teeth, skulls). A thin textile of red colour is affixed to the inside of the mask, probably to protect the dancer's face. Tibet, early 19th century.Height: 24 cm. The mask is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Chinese Turquoise Ground Cloisonne Box and Cover. The cover decorated with Buddhist symbols. The sides with Daoist emblems. 18th/19thC. Length 9.0 cm. Height 4.1 cm. Condition: slight wear to gilding, small dent to gilt rim of base and cover, chip to turquoise enamel at end of base, small scratch to cover.

This is an Early 19th Century, beautifully carved Group of Gourds. Outstanding form, polish and patina. Silk-smooth tactile qualities. Natural himotoshi. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.40 inches ((3.6cm) in diameter.

An Edo period Oribe sake bottle of simple but full proportions and with classically Japanese Zen decoration - austerely yet sensitively placed grass and blooms decoration in iron oxide on the softly crackled opaque off-white glaze ever so slightly scorched in the kiln on two sides where the body is almost slightly exposed and oxidized to a buff tone at those points. The cut foot also glazed save for a crescent reserve around the center where the warm gray body is exposed...

Aka Raku Chawan named "Hanshan" made by Matsuo Fushunsai (1792-1830) who was the 5th generation head of Matsuo-Ryu Tea Ceremony School in Higashi-ku , Nagoya.
The box is signed by Matsuo 6th generation Iemoto Gyosai (1820-1856).

The rim is gently undulated moving to the plump body...

One point vajra, which belonged to a lower rank Buddhist lama. Bronze, with two old textile wrappings to protect fingers against the power of the thunderbolt. Tibet, early 19th century. Length: 21.5 cm. Abrasion due to great age, otherwise very good condition.

This is tsutsugaki & handwriting fireman's cotton coat sashiko hanten coat of a splendid firefighter of the late Tokugawa period of the Edo era(1800-1867).It is the pattern that is impressive with a dragon and the boldness of the sword. It is a very high technique. And there is sashiko stitch on the entire surface by hand. As for it, length is longish with 116cm. The lining is indigo dyeing.
