Relics of the Nile is pleased to offer this brown flint curved blade knife with chipped tail style handle. This knife was created from one large piece of flint; using localized pressure (as opposed to striking the blade with a hammerstone), a craftsman precisely removed small flakes of flint to produce the ripple-flake on both sides and serrated cutting edge. This bade is typical of the Naqada II to 2nd Dynasty style, ca. 3,500 - 2,686 B.C....

This is a large, gilt terracotta head of an official, dating to the 15th-16th century. A Hizen-yaki, Arita kilns dish in the Kakiemon style. Probably after design examples from the latter kiln. The cavetto with delicate shironuki decoration of sakura blossoms on waves of water. The center undecorated save a single chrysanthemum blossom. Brown rim induced by iron oxide. The exterior with karakusa around the unglazed ring foot centering a spurious mark suggesting the Chinese Ming dynasty. Early 19th century. Good condition. Diameter about 7 3/4 and a little more in places.

Chinese pair of moon viewing chairs, made of huang-huali hardwood with dramatic grain. Carved in faux bamboo. Each chair handcrafted for a comfortable reclining position and matched with a slide out foot rest. The joints show sign of shrinkage and patina of its age and condition.

Greek terracotta figurine portraying a nursing woman. Such a depiction is considered a kourotrophor: a protector or nurturer of children. She is wearing a chiton and a veil and she is nurcing a naked boy. Likely Etruscan or Sicilian, ca. 6th-5th. century BC.
Size: c. 16 cm. tall and 8 cm. deep.
Condition: Choice and intact still with most of it's pigment preserved.

This is a rare Yabu Meizan Censer. It is not decorated with gold details and painting but is still an attractive item with its deep plumb glaze color. The first image is how it appears under normal lighting. It probably does not have the original cover but this silver one is more functional than the ivory covers we have seen. The silver lids fit perfect.
Two Genuine SONG Period, SAWANGKALOKE-SISACHANALAI, SIAMESE-THAI iron brown glazed jarlets, both with 2 intact loops and horizontal incised ringed ribbing towards the top, 14-16th Century. The bases are not glazed. Size: height ~13 cm (~5 1/4").
