This is the Katazome cotton festival costume used in Edo during the Edo period. It is dyed with natural indigo. Cotton is hand-spun and thick. It has a few repair marks, but it doesn't stand out. A small lidded jar or bowl, Kangxi period, c 1700. Clobbered in iron red, green, black and gilt over the original under-glaze blue decoration, for the European (Dutch?) market. The base with an “Asian” seal mark in iron red. Height, including lid "2¾/ 7 cm. Condition: the lid with some rubbing to the gilt, otherwise fine.
Two very bright famille jaune (yellow background) ginger jars. These stunning early 20th (C 1910-20) are in excellent condition and very rare to find in this palette, let alone an undamaged pair with lids. Very richly enameled. Mask of the "Nuo" esoteric theater representing the character of Bao Gong, or Judge Bao, also named "King of Inferno" because he also goes down to visit the Inferno to inquire about the souls. The mask was carved on wood on which lacquer and polychrome pigments were painted. China, mid-19th century. Height: 12 1/4" (30,5 cm). Old insect damage (no more danger), otherwise good condition.
19C Meiji period Japanese Woven Bronze Plaque Tray Gold and Silver Inlay
The mixed-metal plaque or tray is designed on the interior with a bronze panel carved and applied with five people, variously finished in gilt and silver. The sides and rim are hand woven metals simulating woven bamboo.

A beautiful jadeite cigarette holder, carved with a smooth, rounded mouth piece and a thin incised line where the cylindrical body meets the handle. The jade has is a wonderful blue green tone with splashes of spinach green toward the end and apple green areas by the mouthpiece.
