This Japanese Meiji period 6 sided porcelain chocolate pot was made for export to the Western markets. The chocolate pot has a lovely traditional Japanese scene which was hand painted, with bits of moriage detail. Excellent condition, no chips, no cracks, pot is 9.5 inches tall. There are 3 matching cups and saucers will be listed separately.

Dated by McKinley Tariff Act requiring name of country of origin to be permanently engraved (stamped) or imprinted into a piece.

From our Shipwreck Ceramics Collection, a charming blanc de chine Guanyin from the Vung Tau Shipwreck circa 1690-1700 (Kangxi Period), one of only 30 ever recovered from this wreck and in this sense quite rare. The Vung Tau Shipwreck refers to a cargo ship of Chinese ceramics that sank in the waters of the Can Doa Islands, nearby to Vung Tao Vietnam between 1690 and 1700, where it had briefly stopped to re-supply on its way to Batavia (Jakarta Indonesia)...

There are two possibilities. Either this very nice Earthenware Jar with a molded - impressed decoration and glazed with an Sancai glaze is from the Tang Dynasty ( 618 - 906 ) and from Henan or Shaanxi ( Sancai). Or it is a piece from the Liao Dynasty ( 916 - 1125 ) Liaoning ( Sancai )...

19th century Korean plaque of a tiger hand carved and painted with red and gold gilt pigments. Dates Joseon dynasty. Condition is good except some old wood loss to the inner paw area. It measures about 8" x 7 inches.

A very attractive octagonal famille rose "deer" plate. Showing two deers and a bird in a flower landscape. The center surrounded with four beautiful flower sprays. Condition: Normal condition. The plat has a hairline in the center of the plate. And the rim has one larger chip. Further no restorations. Measurement: diameter 21.5 cm = 8.5 in

This is an old silk satin obi in maru obi style (design runs on both sides from one end to the other). This obi was probably made from a uchikake gown. It is very soft and feather light with soft padding inside. The padding is wrapped with floss silk inside to keep the soft material and padding intact - you need many years of experience...

Woven from wide bamboo strips, this lidded container was used for storing tobacco. Basket weaving was a traditional folk art throughout southeast Asia and most rural families relied on their own basketry skills to provide themselves with life's necessities.

This slightly miss-shaped container stands 8 inches tall and has the charm and patina which comes only with repeated use and age.

A very lovely Thai spice box or food container, these were suspended from rafters to provide protection from pests. Dating to the early 20th century, this container is a simple but elegant addition to that unique decor suited to your home. Complete with original hardware and in excellent used condition, it measures 6.25" x 4" high.

This Chinese wood carving from the Qing Dynasty portrays a seated nobleman. The surface is covered with remains of the original multi layers of lacquer paint. There are no marks on the bottom. Hand carved and only 4 inches high this is a charming piece of old folk art, an artifact from the glory days of old China.

This old Indo-Persian Bronze bowl has ornate repousse pattern and is heavily patinated with use and age. The upper rim edge has a few small chips from ages past. The bowl is 4.5 inches in diameter and about 2.3 inches high. The bowl is an artifact from the early 1800'S.

This is one of a pair of wooden (not papermache) chinoiserie footed plates made for export. The central medallion Japanese scene is classic and the rim has ornate panels of individual woman in various poises. Each side has handle shaped and painted as an ivy leaf.

On the black lacquered back is the rement of a very old label. Plate is 10.75 inches at the widest point...

Korean Scholar's Inkstone Box constructed entirely of paulownia wood, a very desirable wood for scholars and collectors because of its unique and beautiful grain and its natural bug repellent qualities. Below the inkstone compartment there is a larger compartment for holding what was called the scholar's four friends: brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. The inkstone box was a Korean scholar's most treasured item. This is a beautiful and fine example...

Chinese brown glazed pottery granary jar, with cylindrical shape, decorated with bands of incised lines, and supported by three legs in the shape of bears. Lead glaze with copper is the main colorant used in Han period to produce brown glaze. Brownware became popular during the Eastern Han period.
