A large-size Native American pottery olla from Acoma pueblo, Zuni tribe, New Mexico. The pot is hand-coiled and shard fired and painted in red and black on white with encircling bands of stylized figures of deer and roadrunners. Circa 1910-1915. Size: 19.5 inches ht. x 16.5 inches in diameter. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Name of the original owner written in light pencil on the inside of the rim. This is one of the most fascinating and unique artifacts I have ever seen. The axe is 5 1/2" from top to bottom and the handle is 7". The handle has been broken off in antiquity at the end which is a plus for me because you can see the internal cross section of the wood. The haft is completely fossilized (84% calcium carbonate). Here he is depicted gazing upward toward heaven, arms outstretched, wearing his Dominican robe embroidered in gold with a long painted rosary dangling past his waist. His white undergarment is richly painted with flowers and gold leafy tendrils. Carved in full round, his head is set with glass eyes and he retains a good amount of the original paint...

This incredible Columbia Plateau is 2 1/8" long. It is made from semi-translucent carnelian agate . It was found by Ernie Cowles in the 1930's. Of his vast collection of over 5,000 points, he stated this was his favorite. Ernie was a member of the Oregon Archaeological Society and was profiled in "Who's Who in Indian Relics", Vol. 3, 1972.
