High-quality Greek black-glazed skyphos with straight walls and two horizontal handles. The ring foot is skillfully modeled with carefully turned inside.
The quality of the pottery shows the treatment of standard Attic products. J. W. Hayes refers to these as Atticizing wares, cf. pp. 43 in: Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto 1984.

Glazed Gnathia ware oinochoe with trefoil spout and arched handle. The body decorated with leaf-sprays suspended from a band with egg pattern and dots.
The intended black color of the vase changed to a warm red-brown due to excessive heat. Standing on a small ring foot.

Campanian kylix with four palmettes linked by incised arcs to form a ‘palmette cross’...

A lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1070 or older, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 9/16” long (14 mm) and made of faience. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. Pictured on the bottom are images of vulture goddess Mut, and an Ankh. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

Attractive seal carved in the hemispheric-dome shape in a greenish-black hardstone, Early Achaemenid c. 7th.-5th. cent BC.

The seal engraved in the base with a fancy bird, probably a Peacock, which was a much favored bird among the Persians.

A very rare western Mesopotamian scaraboid seal with an engraving of a seated king on Throne holding his sceptre as a sign of his status, Western Mesopotamia, 2nd. mill. BC.

Attractive translucent stone, rarely seen as a material for early period scaraboids. Finely polished with curving sides in a peculiar squarish shape. Quite nicely engraved motif, better than the imprint indicates. On the back faint enhgraving of cross.

A very rare massive bronze mace head, Neo-Assyrian Empire, c. 9th.-8th. cent. BC.

More massive in construction than the typical 2nd.-1st. millenium BC mace heads with the solid socket being 4,5 cm. wide. Assyrian design, where the balance is at the very top of the mace head, which is ending in a wide hexagonal star of flat, sturdy projections. High quality weapon with finely detailed profiles and line engravings.

Interesting and very impressive massive armring, the bronze mixed with some silver to make a whiter alloy, Achaemenid or pre-Achaemenid period, ancient near east, 1st. mill. BC.

Thick and massive bracelet with complicated bimetalic design with twisted copper-wire, and larger twisted rods and ending in stylised animal heads. The bracelet with a lovely warm brown find patina.

An ancient Egyptian amulet of Shu, god of air and sunshine, c. 1250 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 1 5/16” tall (30 mm) and made of faience. Shu looks to his left and appears to have a side-knot (of hair) hanging down from the right side of his head. The side-knot is usually a sign that it's a prince, although some queens also wore one – for instance, Rameses II's queen Istnofret is depicted with one (Hans Schneider notes), as is her son, Crown Prince Khaemwas...
